PHIXER for YouTube / social video mono fold and phone speaker phase
Studio headphones can feel huge while YouTube, Shorts, Reels, TikTok, and phone speakers thin bass, voice, and stereo beds. Platforms fold, compress, and play back on imperfect mono paths. Check fold-down and phase before the upload leaves the machine. Free phase-repair helps after polarity and timing. It is not a loudness fixer, not a denoiser, and not a substitute for a true mono listen on a phone speaker.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a video editor, not a time-aligner, not a stereo widener, and not a substitute for polarity, delay matching, or a real mono / phone-speaker check. Use it after hygiene, when residual spectral cancellation remains on a stereo bed you must keep stereo under voice or music.
Three YouTube / social mono-fold failure modes
- Phone speaker fold. Voice body softens, bass thins, stereo FX swish when the phone or platform sums L+R. Habit: true L+R sum on the bounce before upload.
- TV dialog cousin. Living-room TV speakers share the same mono-speaker story as a phone. Cousin guide: PHIXER for TV Dialog / Stereo Beds that must survive mono TV speakers.
- Streamers / OBS cousin. Dual-PC, Discord Stage, and VOD paths also fight headphones-vs-mono. Cousin guide: Streamers / Twitch OBS YouTube Live.
Fast YouTube / phone-speaker audition (about 60 seconds)
- Sum L+R on the stereo bounce or monitor controller mono. Listen to voice body, bass, and music under speech.
- A/B stereo vs mono. Note what disappears on fold: S and SH consonants, kick thump, wide beds under VO.
- Mute wide FX / Haas / side-heavy verbs briefly under a voice pass. Note which path thins the phone fold.
- Confirm on a phone speaker or single earbud, then again after any loudness / limiter / export pass, not only before cleanup.
Honest order of fixes (before spectral phase rotation)
1. True mono / L+R listen on the upload path
Hard L+R sum on the final bounce. Habit: mono compatibility checklist and the 60-second audition above.
2. Polarity if a path flips
Dual mics, camera + lav, music bed vs VO. Flip polarity when body returns. Guide: polarity vs phase.
3. Timing / delay-align before spectral tools
Nudge dual mics, doubles, and dual-path beds a few ms. Spectral rotation is not a substitute for timing.
4. Prefer correlated voice and lows for phone / social
Keep critical voice and low-mid correlated. Put width in sides that survive fold. Related: TV dialog / mono TV speakers (same fold habit).
5. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights
If a stereo bed must stay stereo under voice and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B. Watch the YouTube tutorial and the mono demo.
YouTube / social path types
| Setup | Common mono failure | First fix |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube long-form / music video | Fine in headphones, thin on phone | True L+R + phone speaker proxy |
| Shorts / Reels / TikTok cut | Hook loses weight after export | Hard mono bounce; re-check after loudness |
| VO + stereo bed under talk | Bed soft-drops when voice sits on top | Mute bed briefly; check fold with and without |
| Dual mic / camera + lav | Body gone when both play | Polarity then timing |
| Haas / wide music under lines | Swish or cancel on fold | Less width in lows; correlated center |
| Live / VOD cousin | Stream headphones vs phone VOD | Streamers guide |
TV dialog and streamers cousins (short version)
- TV dialog / mono TV speakers share the same L+R habit as a phone speaker fold.
- Streamers / OBS / Discord Stage / VOD paths already need headphones-vs-mono honesty.
- Polarity and timing still come first. Spectral tools after residual L/R fights only.

When not to reach for PHIXER
- Wrong polarity on dual mics or camera + lav (flip polarity first).
- Obvious attack misalignment (nudge first).
- You only need a mono VO print, not a stereo bed under speech.
- Loudness, denoise, or encoder problems (wrong tool).
- Honesty list: When not to use PHIXER.
